Tenerife is well populated in all its extension. As deeper as you travel into the isle, the populated areas get fewer. The most populated area in the isle is the capital city which is
Santa Cruz de Tenerife and in the second place we find
La Laguna which is a university town and the old capital city of Tenerife. Almost 500.000 people live in these towns which have grown almost at the same time. The other 500.000 people live in the rest of the areas. These areas, Santa Cruz and La Laguna, are not so attractive to the tourists because they don’t have an important holiday houses and apartment offer. If you drive from Santa Cruz to the north (North highway) you’ll find the first interesting municipalities to the tourist, such as
La Matanza,
El Sauzal, or Santa Ursula.
Then you’ll get to the most important tourist areas on the north, which are
Puerto de la Cruz and
La Orotava. Next you’ll find
Icod de los Vinos municipality. After passing Icod you’ll get to the mountain road where
El Tanque and
Masca. municipalities are located. If you continue going to the east you’ll get to the sunniest part of the isle,
Los Gigantes municipality. From here you can easily reach the most important tourist areas in the south,
Adeje and Arico, as well as,
Los Cristianos and
Playa de Las Americas. Before getting to Playa de la Américas you’ll find a wonderful tourist area with a very good tourist offer called
Playa Paraiso. From these tourist areas on the south you’ll be able to get to Santa Cruz, where the circuit gets closed, just by taking the south highway. On the way to Santa Cruz you’ll find
Guia de Isora,
Costa del Silencio,
Granadilla,
El Médano and
Candelaria municipalities. There are no towns in El Teide national park. If you’re interested on getting accommodation near the national park you can check it out in Santiago del Teide or in
