Car rental in Tenerife – Advices and suggestions for going to El Teide National Park
Once you have rented a car in Tenerife, you’ll be able to enjoy the nature and wonderful landscapes on the island. For example, you can take a beautiful ride from La Laguna to El Teide National Park. Don’t forget to take a jacket with you even in summer time. And that’s because at 2400 mts. over the sea level it can get cold at any time during the year.
From La Laguna you can take the way to La Esperanza, which is one of the most preferred places for the canary people to go trekking. Just behind La Esperanza, laurel and some other interesting trees forest begins and as higher as you go, pine trees can be seen everywhere. These canary pine trees grow at about 2000 mts over the sea level. They are real survivors because they concentrate the morning dew on their needle leaves and get the humidity they need to live in a very dry environment.
During the ride, you’ll pass by the 2 first observation sites, el Mirador Ortuño and el Mirador de las cumbres. La Crucita hill is an exotic observation point due to its magnificent views from the north and south coasts of Tenerife. Higher than 2000 mts the landscape changes radically. Trees are not able to grow over this altitude and just passing the forest you’ll admire a unique volcanic landscape. In the middle of the national park there’s El Teide. In the tourist centre you’ll have the possibility of watching a film based on the changes they have happened through the years into this protected area. You’ll also be able to see and hold in your hands the stones and the dried magma that have flowed from the heart of the earth. And of course, you can’t miss the highest mountain in all Spain, El Teide, with an altitude of 3718 mts over the sea level. We would also suggest you to visit the Parador hotel, where you can have a coffee or a beer outdoors in an unpolluted wonderful landscape.
